Najla Abdulshakour

Najla Abdulshakour (b. 1981) was born in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, then moved to the industrial city of Yanbu, where she spent all her school days. Najla is a self-taught artist that holds a bachelor degree in Economics from KAAU and a Master’s degree in Marketing from Wollongong University, Australia.

Having to live in different cities within different regions of the culturally diverse Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, come to light her artwork that had been inspired by the local heritages and cultures of cities.

Najla’s artworks are heavily inspired by local heritage, Islamic symbols, and spirituality. All of which have been a source of admiration that is reflected in her work through depicting the environment of living behind Roshan woodwork, beside palm trees, and next to mosques emphasizing the architectural elements of the buildings.

Najla relies on the art of layering her acrylic paints, mixing colors, intersecting lines and breathing a fresh look into the pieces.
