Painter and Graphic Designer Specialist in Watercolor Painting | Graduate of the Faculty of Art and Architecture, University of Tehran Born 1980 Maryam Chivaei is an Iranian artist, born in 1980, and a graduate of the Painting Department at the Faculty of Art and Architecture, University of Tehran. She began her professional career in graphic design while continuously pursuing painting as her primary form of personal artistic expression. In recent years, watercolor has become the central medium of her work — a technique that, with its transparency, delicacy, and spontaneity, allows her to convey emotions, atmosphere, and detailed observations.
The main themes of Chivaei’s work include natural landscapes, traditional architecture, local markets, and urban spaces. With a keen and aesthetic eye, she represents these elements, creating a bridge between culture, nature, and everyday life. Her special interest in the culture of the Persian Gulf countries has been a significant source of inspiration in recent years; this influence is evident in her choice of subjects, textures, and color palettes.
Artist Statement :
This collection of watercolor paintings is, for me, a journey into worlds of historic spaces, vibrant markets, and serene natural landscapes that carry with them a sense of calm and nostalgia. Each color and brushstroke is an attempt to capture those special moments when light and space merge, evoking a deep feeling of tranquility within. These works reflect a discovery of beauties that appear simple on the surface but hold within them a world of memories and emotions. The collection invites contemplation of simple beauties and the light that passes over these spaces through time—a place where memories and feelings are revived within the colors, creating a silent serenity.
